Hyperpigmentation is a darkening of an area of skin, caused by overproduction of melanin (pigment). It’s harmless, but unsightly and very difficult to cover with make-up. In areas of hyperpigmentation, there is an abnormally high level of melanocytes, the cells that produce melanin, or they are hyperactive. There are a variety of reasons for this, with overexposure to the sun (causing ‘sun spots’ or ‘liver spots’) being very common, along with hormonal changes; certain medications, inflammation and acne.

IPL works well in combination with chemical peels that also help to lighten skin. An anti dark spot treatments which includes an antioxidant and doesn't contain aggressive skin bleaching ingredients.
